Engineering is a division of the Office of Administration.  The Engineering Division has 3 full-time employees with more than 50 years of combined experience in the field of engineering and over 18 combined years experience working for the Township of West Milford.  The Engineering Division is responsible for the planning, survey, design and construction of infrastructure projects and Township owned facilities including roads, storm drains, parking lots, Township properties, dams, bridges, and traffic signals.  We also provide technical assistance and engineering expertise to other Township departments, boards and committees, maintain the Township tax maps and review and inspect residential lot development plans.

The Township of West Milford is responsible for 150 miles of paved Township roads and 7 miles of unpaved Township roads.  In addition, there are 58 miles of non-Township and private roads, of which 14 miles are unpaved.  The Engineering Division is responsible for the design and inspection of Township road projects.  This includes the annual road resurfacing, crack seal and guide rail programs, the annual New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Municipal Aid Program and any road assessment projects.

In 2020, the Township Council appropriated new capital funding for road improvements which allowed Engineering to provide resurfacing and Municipal Storm Water Permit upgrades and storm drainage improvements, where required.  In addition, the NJDOT Municipal Aid grant construction contract for Ridge Road - Section 6 was awarded and provided for roadway resurfacing and storm drainage improvements between Cahill Cross Road and Union Valley Road.  In total, capital funding accounted for 8.8 miles of road improvements.  Assistance was provided to the Recreation Department for athletic field rehabilitation as part of the Farrell Field Soccer Field Rehabilitation Project and for the roof replacement project at the Recreation Center.  Assistance was provided to the Recreation Department for athletic field rehabilitation as part of the Farrell Field Rehabilitation Project.  Assistance was provided to the Department of Public Works for improvements to Township stormwater infrastructure and drainage improvement projects.  One Municipal State Aid grant was successfully procured in 2020 totaling $290,000 for future improvements to Clinton Road.  In total, the Engineering Division was involved whole or in part with 2.4 million dollars of local capital infrastructure projects.
