MATERIAL DAMAGE FROM HURRICANE SANDY – REVIEW BY TAX ASSESSOR

If your property sustained damages as a result of Hurricane Sandy, attached is form MDSe “Assessment Review Form” to notify the Tax Assessor of material damage to your structure(s).  Tree damage and landscaping items are not considered in the assessment process.  This form and any supporting documentation must be submitted to the Assessor’s Office by January 10, 2013 for consideration.  There will be no follow-up correspondence after your form has been submitted.

If repairs will be completed by January 1, 2013, no adjustment will be made to the assessment.  However, adjustments to the assessments for 2013 are temporary until the damage(s) are repaired.

Submission of the “Assessment Review Form, MDSe” does not automatically imply there will be a resulting change in your assessment.  This form is NOT an appeal form.  If you are dissatisfied with the assessment placed on your property for 2013, you will have the customary recourse of filing an appeal with the Passaic County Board of Taxation by April 1, 2013.

If you have any questions, please contact the Tax Assessor’s Office at 973-728-2793.
